Singapore Theatre & Cuban Cigars 2004/5 and 2008

Singapore – great place, nice people, unbelievable shopping and reasonable smoking policy. Although no smoking is allowed in “public” air conditioned places all the restaurants we visited allowed some sort of smoking. Outdoors no problem, indoors some were split in to non-smoking and smoking areas and the larger ones had separate bar lounges for smoking before and after taking meals in the restaurant.

We were lucky enough to be there for the Asian premier of Havana Night – The Latin Fire, at the Esplanade theatre.

Great music and dance show, all Cuban ensemble of 50, fabulous costumes and just so lively, audience participation and the lot.

One of the sponsors was the Via Mar Spanish restaurant which is in part of the same theatre complex, so we went there after the show. Great food and wine and has its own walk-in humidor with a good all Cuban cigar selection. Then to round off the evening, just as we were about to leave, some of the cast arrived and we chatted about the show and Cuban cigars. A perfect finish to a perfect evening.

Returning to the Esplanade in April 2008 with our friends Tony and Val we caught the Ben Elton & Queen musical 'We Will Rock You', excellent performance and the music needs no further comment. We again finished the evening with a late supper at the Via Mar.
